UBC Malcolm Knapp Research Forest

Maple Ridge, BC

May 26 & June 2, 2013

We did this hike two Sundays in a row. The first Sunday it showered most of the day. We hiked up the main road a bit and then went through the trails, following the yellow and blue marked trails. Some trails were quite over grown. After getting quite wet from the vegetation we followed the logging road up to a look out called Peggy Helm's. Not much of a view today. Had a quick lunch and followed the road back to the car. Total hiked 11.7 km

The next Sunday the weather was much better. We hiked the main road 10 km to the Loon Lake Research and Education Centre.

Took a look around and then we followed a different old logging road back up to Peggy Helm's where we had lunch.

Bike Riding

Lower Seymour Conservation Reserve

North Vancouver, BC

May 5, 2013

What a great day, sunny and warm (28C). Make a lunch and put the bikes in the van. 35 minutes later we're at the start of our bike ride.

Taking the Seymour Valley Trailway. A paved path that winds it way through a second growth coastal temperature rainforest. A 10 km hilly ride.

At the end of the 10 km there is a 2 km Old Growth Trail that takes us through the forest and ends at the Seymour Falls Dam.
